Prof. Dr. Ali R. Alan

Dr. Alan is a reputed cell biologist known for his gametic embryogenesis studies in various plant species used for food, medicinal, and ornamental purposes. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Plant Molecular Biology from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA). Dr. Alan has carried out research projects and has taught courses at several prestigious American and Canadian universities for many years before returning back to his home country. He is currently working as a full professor at the Department of Biology at Pamukkale University (Denizli, Turkey). Dr. Alan is the head of PAU BIYOM, a plant genetics and biotechnology center, where he collaborates with Dr. Fevziye Çelebi-Toprak in developing biotechnological tools to assist crop breeding programs. His current research focus is developing gametic embryogenesis induction and chromosome doubling procedures for various Allium, Brassica and Umbellifer species. Dr. Alan is the author of many papers published in various plant science and biotechnology journals. He is a member of the editorial board of Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture (PCTOC) Journal and is a reviewer for many plant science and biotechnology journals.
