Prof. Roberto Ugas

Roberto Ugas is a professor of horticulture and agroecology at Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina in Lima, Peru and an advisor to Peru's National Association of Ecological Farmers (ANPE). He is an expert on vegetable crops, agrobiodiversity, local knowledge and market facilitation. His studies in agronomy, ecological agriculture and farming systems took place in Peru, Netherlands and Japan. As a member of IFOAM-Organics International, Roberto has been active in issues related to organic guarantee systems and smallholder farming, and participated in the development of the principles of organic farming as adopted by the organic movement. He represents IFOAM at the international board of ICROFS (International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems, Denmark) and is a member of Sociedad Científica Latinoamericana de Agroecología (SOCLA). He is currently running a project dealing with the diversity of Peruvian chilli peppers, its organic production and value chain support.
